I am an avid viewer of Investigation Discovery (I.D.) which explores the captivating real life stories of people who have been murdered, raped, extorted etc. One of the many interesting series is titled, “web of lies”. In the world of online interactions, you never really know who you’re talking to. This series explores stories of deception and homicide, triggered by online connections. From the black widow wives masked behind alter-egos to scorned lovers who stalk their exes, from obsessive lovers enacting their sick, brutal and disturbing fantasies to unbelievable tales of kidnapping, unimaginable violence and downright lies – each episode chronicles stories with intriguing twists and turns as the web of lies is exposed.
I also like to watch “Homicide Hunter” with Lt. Joe Kenda. His punch line is “If you kill I will find you!” He’s not lying. When investigating a murder, in addition to the standard interrogation, detectives use an important strategy to confirm suspicion or eliminate a suspect. They often ask a suspect to take advantage of a lie detector test to clear their names. Often times, innocent people jump at the offer to clear their names while others who have something to hide tend to not volunteer. Their refusal does not always mean “guilty”, however, this strategy though inadmissible in court is very vital in criminal investigation.
We all need to be lie detectors. This will keep us from being bombarded and doped by people around us. A lie detector also known as a polygraph is an instrument that measures various physiological signals from sensors attached to a person undergoing questioning. The science behind the polygraph is based on the premise that under the stressful act of questioning about potentially deceptive issues, a person will show changes in emotional stimulation and mental stress. We must develop sensors to identify lies that people speak to us. These lies are negative words that discourage and aim to derail your true potential. We need sensors that wrap around the chest monitors of our true purpose. We have unimaginable greatness wrapped up inside us and many of us are living way below what God intends for us. We limit ourselves by lies told to us or lies we’ve told ourselves. We’re trapped in a web of lies where we are chained by thoughts of doubt and ultimate doom. We have all been told, “You don’t have what it takes”, “Why are you trying so hard? Who do you think you are to aim so high?”, “be realistic!!”, “no one else in your family has done that. What makes you think you are so special?”, “you will never become anything good”, “you are not smart enough”, “you don’t have the qualifications”, “you are too old”, “you are ugly”, “people don’t even like you anyways” and the list goes on.
To what do we connect our lie detector? The fountain of truth. I begin with God’s word. I ask myself, what does God say about me? I write those things down and mark them in my Bible and memorize as much as I can. I hold on to these truths and anything that comes my way contrary to the truth as I know it, is a lie!! It is my belief that we are on earth to fulfil a great purpose and no one else can fulfill that purpose for you. There is a part of the world that is dark and only you can bring light to it. My light cannot enlighten the place destined for your light and as such we all have a unique purpose assignment we must bring to reality. Some people have failed at realizing their true potential. That is why I no longer become angry when someone expresses lies to me. I also don’t believe that it is because they don’t want you to succeed, and this is only true in some cases. Individuals who fail at living up to their true potential cannot judge your abilities and prospects in a balanced way. They cannot see pass their own failures or inability to try. As such they genuinely believe that you cannot make it, simply because they can’t. That’s why it is extremely important to associate with people who are destined for greatness and study the lives of those who have done tremendously well in their lifetime. There’s timeless truth wrapped up in these ancient proverbs, “Birds of a feather flock together,” and “show me your company and I’ll tell you who you are.”
Four things God says about us;
First I am a child of God. With a Father like LORD, my future is secure. I am empowered by His spirit to act upon the seeds he has planted in me. He gives me thoughts and imaginations and great gifts to make life useful. He has equipped me with the skills to do what I must to activate the dreams he has blessed me with. He has also done great in bringing me in the right direction to meet the right people at the right time to actualize my divine purpose. The same is true for you. “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— “ (Jn. 1:12)
I am not here by random selection. I was thoroughly thought of and created. Long before my conception I was in the thought of God. The same is true for you. If you have been planned and thought of then provisions have been made for you. Not by human parents but by God himself. We are so special to him. He knows everything about us. Even the hairs on our head is numbered. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jer. 1: 5) It takes quality time to form a thing. We are set apart to our unique mission, there’s no replica of you, even if you are a twin. You have been appointed to make a global impact, and you have what it takes.
God chose me. He chose you too. He calls us Royalty. “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…” (1 Peter 2:9) Do not believe otherwise.
The possibilities are endless with God. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
The limits we have are self-imposed. Even those placed upon us by the lying lips of others. When people speak we have the power to filter what gets into our thoughts. Refuse to accept anything negative or self-defeating. Only think about possibilities. See yourself doing well. Discipline yourself and work toward your dreams. If you have given up, start over. Begin now!! Dream again. Identify the lies that have kept you hostage for all these years and tear off the every linen of negative thoughts and beliefs. Unwrap yourself from the grave clothes of defeat and doom! Shake off the ashes and turn off the music fueling your pity party and take charge of your truth.
As a teenager I struggled in school. I did not think I had what it took to be excellent. I believed the lies of some teachers whose false declaration suggested that I, along with my classmates would not amount to anything. As I reflect, I remember these teachers wishing us a good and safe summer. The thing that stuck out to me was the sentence, “God willing we will see you when school reopens.” ‘God willing’, suggested that they are uncertain of the near future. If they are not certain of the possibility of school re-opening or their own future, how is it they could speak to mine? They attempted, but they LIED!! No one knows your future except God. I have been called “Jackass”, “dunce” and the list goes on. (I’ll tell you the jackass story one day) In high school, I confronted the lie and the lair. I was scolded and called rude and disrespectful. However, deep inside, I felt liberated. I was so proud of what I had done. I stood up to someone who belittled and humiliated me for years in front of other people. I believe it is high time we confront the people in our lives who are speaking negative things over us. Call them out!! Call them liars!! Confront the thoughts that have held you back for so many years. Start believing the positive truths that have been declared over you and start speaking truth to yourself. Write them on sheets of paper and put them on your bedroom wall. Stick them on the refrigerator. Record them on your cell phone, and play it back every night before bed and in the morning when you wake up. Do the same thing with scriptures that align with your purpose and promises from God that you want to claim. Create a new mindset and a new winning attitude. Become a warrior of truth.
A few years ago someone attempted to speak negativity over me. I was accused of being selfish. I was told that I am ungrateful and that I will fail!! I was told that whatever I think I have accomplished I will lose and I will fall off my high ladder. I was told that nothing good will come from me and so much more!! As I listened to this voice in my ears, with two of my friends looking on, I lost it. (I felt bad for them) I interrupted the toxic flow with two words, “you liar!” In response I counteracted with my truth as I know it, “you cannot speak over my life! Your words are a true reflection of your lack of knowledge and you do not have what it takes to shake me. Your attempts to intimidate and belittle me has fallen on deaf ears. To me your words are wind. You are such a liar. You lack the ability to speak truth so don’t you dare talk to me like that. You are not God, you speak in opposition to what God says about me. Everything that I am and what I have accomplished is simply through God and hard work. You talk about me falling off my ladder! You haven’t seen anything yet. Your bad mind will poison you! And as a matter of fact don’t ever pray for me, because you are such a liar, I would not even say Amen!”
Disentangle the web of lies that have held you captive. Stand against the homicidal attempts on your destiny. Resuscitate your fate. Be a detective, and like Lt. Kenda let people know, “If you ever lied to me, I’ll find you!
Like me, you may be fighting or are battling with negative declarations. It is my hope that you will stand up and win the fight. The truth is, you are destined for greatness. There is no limit to what God has for you. Excellence is the standard. Seek to be the best in everything you do. Be your own competition. Only seek to outdo yourself!! And never, NEVER speak negative words to anyone, including YOU!!
Heavenly Father, we thank you for being the ultimate standard of truth. Your words have been established for us to live by and we accept your truth. We lack the ability to challenge your precepts though our pride forces us to try. We speak into the lives of people with such authority and often times misrepresent the truth. Please forgive us. We have been guilty of spewing venom that has caused hurt to others and we ask you to remind and give us the courage to make it right, but causing us to confess to these people that we lied to. Lord we know that Satan is the father of lies and his ultimate desire is to lead many away from your truth and their destiny in Christ Jesus. In this moment we ask Lord that you demolish and thwart every malicious word, every satanic agenda that seeks to undermine your plan for our lives and every humanistic lies that are hurting so many people. Help me to be an instrument of truth. You are the way the truth and the light and you are the only hope for mankind.
May you raise up an army of prayer warriors that will be prepared to seek your face and to stand in the gap for those that have been swept into the lies of the humanistic agenda. May the truth of Your Word become a beacon of light to those that are in need of a Savior and we pray that the lies of the enemy will be exposed so that those who are heading for an eternity of separation from the Father, and their true destiny may be swept into the kingdom of His dear Son - to Your praise and glory.
Your Word is truth – and may it ring in the ears of all who are perishing today. In Jesus’ name.
